I chose this dining experience for my birthday! I sat down and a beautiful handwritten note card was on the table to start the evening. Our waitress Gracie was one of the most authentic, passionate and service driven individuals I’ve ever encountered. Her attention to detail & energy didn’t go unnoticed! This culinary masterpiece outdid it self with each & every dish. I highly recommend this one of a kind dining journey
An unforgettable dining experience at The Grey in Savannah. We did the 3-course prix fixe and every bite was outstanding—from the crisp, fresh crudite to the mouthwatering oyster trio and flavorful succotash. The lamb melted in our mouths, and the chicken Country Captain was rich and juicy. Cocktails like the Captain Sauce and Fisherman Ave were beautifully crafted. For dessert, the fig thrills took us on a nostalgic journey through the joy of growing up in Savannah—her elevated take on the classic frozen pop was both refreshing and refined. We even got to meet Executive Chef Mashama Bailey—warm, down-to-earth, and deeply passionate. Incredible food, service, and experience. 10/10 highly recommend!
5 stars — An unforgettable dining experience The Grey absolutely blew us away. From the moment we walked into the beautifully restored 1938 Greyhound bus terminal, we knew we were in for something special. Every detail — from the ambiance to the attentive service — was exceptional. I ordered the lamb, and my husband chose the chicken (which I almost dismissed as a “safe” choice). Turns out, it was the most flavorful, juicy, and perfectly cooked chicken we’ve ever had — hands down! Each dish was thoughtful, unique, and deeply satisfying. The staff were warm, professional, and genuinely made us feel welcome. It’s been a long time since we’ve experienced such personal, high-level service. If you’re visiting Savannah, this place is an absolute must. Thank you, The Grey, for an evening we’ll never forget!
After watching Chef's Table, we had to see if The Grey lived up to the hype. To say that it surpassed our expectations would be an understatement. The French Laundry has nothing on Chef Mashama Bailey. Chef and her partner kept the original Greyhound bus stop bones, but elevated the atmosphere. The food is incredibly fresh and passion infused. Every bite was heavenly and Chef's chillies bear palate cleanser gave us all the feels. If you're headed to Savannah, make that reservation early and be sure to ask for Ben as your server. His dedication to The Grey and outstanding service was the cherry on top of a perfect evening.
After finally watching the episode on Chef's Table, I decided to make a reservation at The Grey. I knew it was a popular spot, so I booked it a few months in advance. The menu seems to change frequently, so by the time we finally visited there were a few differences from the menu online. I had read that the dress code is "smart casual" but I quickly noticed that the front of the house wore madras, jeans, and comfortable footwear. There was a wide array of dress for the diners, some wore sneakers. Even though the menu and prices seem upscale, the atmosphere felt quite casual. Our waiter Benjamin was great with the recommendations. My sister ordered the Driftwood cocktail. It was well-balanced, a little sweet, but not too sweet and the rye and sherry were subtle. I feel like my sister ordered the better menu options: turnip cakes, mushroom middlin, and the chicken country captain. I got the parmesan frico, pumpkin soup, and the dayboat catch, which was red snapper. We added on the Parker House rolls, which were delicious, but they could have been warmer. The two best items? The pumpkin soup, it was rich and decadent and the blackberry mustard really cut through the creaminess. The other surprise was the chicken, we usually make it a point not to order chicken out at restaurants, but this was the best chicken either of us have ever had. The sauce needs to be bottled and sold. We loved ending the meal with the green apple thrillers. Two things I didn't like as much...first was the parmesan frico. Unfortunately, it was very salty with the trout roe and I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to pick it up with my fingers or use a fork–it was a little oily and finicky to eat. The other dish was the dayboat catch. For some reason, the red snapper didn't taste as fresh as I thought it would, although the skin was crispy and the other seafood on the plate was delicious. My only other critique is something that another reviewer mentioned...when my sister left to use the restroom, a gentleman in a suit jacket seemed to climb into the booth. I was about the tell him he was coming over to the wrong table, but then he promptly grabbed her napkin from the seat and folded it. It was oddly out of place considering the casual atmosphere of the restaurant. It was a little uncomfortable and I feel like it's an unnecessary detail. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the creativity and modernness of the food, despite the low country inspiration. It truly felt like an unforgettable experience!
Wow! Great vibe, great food, great drink! I ate at the bar in the main dining room which is a converted former Greyhound bus station! Really cool art deco styling. Had the 3 course prix fixe. Definitely get the corn chowder and the beef carpaccio, they are quite possibly the most delicious foods I’ve eaten in Savannah! I’d come back to Savannah just for those 2 dishes! Staff were all very friendly and welcoming! There were people dressed to the nines as well as some that were more casually dressed. Felt very comfortable!
This place was recommended by a friend who has family members that live in Savannah. Walking in the door I saw the old Greyhound bus symbol on the ground. I like old stuff like that because it tends to aid with the nostalgic setting. The area we sat in was the same way as well. Our waiter was awesome and provided excellent service. The appetizers and food came relatively quickly. Everything I had was SUPER TASTY!!! I'm from New Orleans, so my taste buds are hard to please. There was a limited dinner menu, but I have to imagine that everything on the menu was banging!!!!
After dining at a good number of Savannah's higher end restaurants I can enthusiastically say that The Grey was the best. And probably one of only two or three places that are worth the price. Our party of four were all impressed by the quality of The Grey's service and food. Big props to "Sooz" (Suzette) our most attentive and engaged server for her positive energy and apologizing for a delay in the serving of our main courses, before we knew there was an issue. (Comping us additional wine for the problem was high class and appreciated.) The dining room manager was also very attentive and engaged in making sure we had a first rate experience. We all ordered off the Prix Fixe menu, which I see has changed somewhat since we visited. Every dish was wonderful! We will definitely be back to The Grey.
